Johnny Yune

JOHNNY YUNE is the only Korean actor-comedian who has achieved a prominent status in the U.S. His life reads almost like a fairy tale.

Johnny was born in a small village 50 miles south of Seoul, Korea. He first came to the U.S. in 1959 to attend the U.S. Naval School at the Great Lakes, and to study optics. While attending a church service in Raymond, Ohio, he sang “You'll Never Walk Alone" to the congregation. One of the ladies in attendance, Mrs. Freida G. Edwards, fell in love with his voice and eventually sponsored his migration to the U.S. to study voice at Ohio Wesleyan University on a scholarship. He also studied acting with Lee Strasberg in New York, and with Bret Dunham in Hollywood, as well as musical comedy with David Craig.

His first assignment was a commercial for Natural Light, followed by TV guest shots on "THE MERV GRIFFIN SHOW", "DlCK CLARK'S LIVE WEDNESDAY", "THE JOHN DAVIDSON SHOW", DON RICKLES HBO SPECIAL. He probably holds a record for appearances on JOHNNY CARSON'S "THE TONIGHT SHOW', with a total of 30 guest stints. He became very active in TV, with guest performances in "MASH", "KOJAK", "KUNG FU", and "THE LOVE BOAT", as well as starring in his own variety special and a one-hour series, both for NBC. Motion pictures followed, with guest starring roles in "CANNONBALL" and "METEOR" (MOM).

Johnny’s vocal background finally came to the forefront as he staffed in "THE FLOWER DRUM SONG", as Sammy Fong. That show propelled him into personal appearances at all the major Hotel/Casinos in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Reno and Lake Tahoe, working with all the major stars including Frank Sinatra, and the highly acclaimed Bob Hope tours.

It wasn't long before he launched his own feature film, "THEY CALL ME BRUCE", which he wrote, produced and starred in. The popularity of this film spawned a sequel, 'THEY STILL ME A CALL BRUCE", which he, also co-directed, and a new one is currently under development, "THEY CALL ME BRUCE BROTHERS".

His latest accomplishment as organizer and Executive Producer of the Pre-Olympic Special, "UNITED WE STAND", on which he also served as co-host with Loretta Swit, was a culmination of his many successful years in show business. He gathered an impressive array of talent, such as Bob Hope, Julio Iglesias, Miami Sound Machine, Sheena Easton, Germaine Jackson, Brooke Shields, Rich Little, and Miriam Makeba to name a few.

There is no doubt that the multi-talented Johnny Yune has only scratched tile surface of his future in show business. He is a dynamo to be reckoned with, and has many new projects on the horizon, from TV specials, .to pilots and features, and personal appearances. For Johnny Yune, the sky is .the limit.
